Introduction to Me
Myself and Callie hiking in Arkansas |
Hey everyone! It's the final stretch (for me at least). This is my last semester before graduating here at OU, and I think it's awesome we get to write and read these blogs to get to know each other. I'm majoring in MIS and will be moving to an IT consulting job after graduation. I'll be staying local while working out of OKC. Easily the biggest thing to know about me is my love for cars. Ever since I was a kid collecting Hot Wheels, I've never stopped being a car guy. Now that I'm getting the opportunities to do so, I've graduated from Hot Wheels to real cars! I've currently got two: my 2015 Mustang is my daily driver, and I'm working on restoring a 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo (both pictured below). The Porsche is a huge undertaking for me as it's my learning platform for mechanical skills. While I've done work on cars here and there, I've never taken on a full project like this.

Outside of cars, other hobbies of mine include competitive gaming, hiking, and anything involving being out on water without a motor (kayaking, canoeing, etc.). Out of all those, the one I focus on the most is competitive gaming. I've been involved in Esports in some way ever since the early
2010s. Back then, I was a stand-in (basically a substitute if there was a
no-show) for semi-professional Team Fortress 2. Once the Esports club was
founded at OU, I got involved as quickly as I could as both a player and
ambassador. I even got the opportunity to compete on stage at Dreamhack
right next to the Rocket League Pro Circuit!
That's me on the far right! |
Now's the part I know you all really want to see, MY DOGS! My girlfriend and I have two adorable Pomskies. That's a mix between a Pomeranian and a Husky. Because of this, we basically end up having two mini Huskies named Remi and Koda. If you've ever had a Pomeranian or a Husky, you know they can be a handful. Now imagine both of those high energy breeds combined. Yeah, they bounce off the walls even after extensive exercise. That doesn't stop them from being amazing pups.

Hi Reid!
ReplyDeleteOkay you and your girlfriend have the cutest pups! Also, your introduction is awesome. I think it is really cool that you are passionate about so many things. My boyfriend games a good amount, but not competitively. I cannot imagine how intense that is! To get involved in that is it a tryout process or do people recruit you? Either way, awesome intro and congrats on being one semester out from finishing college!
Oh wow, look at that Mustang! How cool, Reid! And look at those adorable dogs! We had a Pom when I was little (and yes, high-energy would be the word!)... I didn't even know about Pomskies. I bet they are so much fun! I'm guessing you will probably have all kinds of great storytelling ideas inspired by Team Fortress, etc. ... and apparently esports is getting started in India too... or, at least, that's what Google tells me, since your post made me curious: ESPORTS IN INDIA IS GROWING RAPIDLY, IT'S HIGH TIME WE GOT SERIOUS ABOUT IT... anyway, the epics are all about warriors and their weapons, including supernatural warriors and supernatural weapons, and who knows what kind of video-game / epic mash-up you might imagine! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is so exciting it is your last semester!! I am so ready to be done but then it is off to PA school. It is awesome you graduated from hot wheels to real cars. I hate driving so much and I just refuse. My boyfriend just drives me around lol. Though, someday I dream of owning a vintage bug. Pomskies are one of my DREAM dogs. I am so so so jealous!
ReplyDeleteReid,
ReplyDeleteMe and you sound a lot alike! I also have a passion for cars. I will say, though, I prefer the Camaro over the Mustang, but I love driving both! Also, competitive gaming is one of my favorite hobbies! It's awesome that you've actually been to events! I've only ever been in online tournaments. Do you have any suggestions for spots to hike here in Oklahoma? I've been to the Wichita Mountains a few times, but that's the only decent spot! It's really cool to find someone I have so much in common with.
Jake
Hey Reid,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on making it to your last semester at OU! I am super jealous because I was trying to graduate this semester but looks like it will have to be the fall for me. I too also collected hot wheels, and it is awesome how that influenced your love for cars. Your dogs are adorable and have the best names! I hope this semester goes well for you!
Reid,
ReplyDeleteYou're almost to the finish line for both your schooling and your car! Congrats! Just a little more and you'll be done with both. That said, I haven't met anyone else who plays any sort of video games competitively. That sounds SO awesome. Obviously, you have to be pretty good to do that. Do you play that same game for fun, or is it all business when you log in? Your dogs look like a furry equivalent of angels. I already love them. You've got the car, the girl, the dogs, and the video games? AND you're graduating? It sounds like you've got it all set. I'm excited to read more of your stories.
Hi Reid,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on almost being done with school!! That is a great accomplishment, and to also have a job already lined up after graduation is awesome. I have never been a big car person, but my roommate loves them so I am slowly learning more. Your dogs are so cute! I have 2 dogs as well and they are just so necessary in life!
Hello Reid. First, I must say that I love dogs and you have two very beautiful dogs. Also I have always wanted to be able to work on my own car and it's awesome that you know how to do so. I've never been big on water sports (I like my feet to stay on the ground thank you). And it's cool you were in a gaming competition. I would consider myself a gamer but I've not really wanted to compete in e-sports.
ReplyDeleteHey Reid! I am also in my last semester of college and we are almost done! I like to play competitive gaming as well and play Call of Duty on my Xbox and Overwatch on my PC. It is super cool that you are working on that Porche. I have always wanted to learn more about cars and how to fix them and think that its awesome that you under took such a big project. Best of luck the rest of this semester!
ReplyDeleteHello, those are the cutest little doggies! I didn't know that Pomskies were a thing! I had a Pom a few years ago and it was the loudest, most loving dog. I imagine a Pomskie is just as great. Also, very cool that you're into competitive gaming. Maybe I'll get to see you play on Esports one day-they show the games at the restaurant I work at sometimes. Have a great final semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Reid! Wow, you have such a wide range of interesting hobbies, so you must be super busy of all of the time. Good luck with the Porsche too! It's super cool that you work on cars and I commend you for that. I wouldn't have the patience to dedicate myself to a huge project like that because I would get too frustrated. It's also super cool that you're into competitive gaming. I love your dogs too! I've never seen a Pomskie before and I'm happy that I finally have. Good luck with the class!
ReplyDeleteHi Reid! Congrats on already finding a job for after graduation. I know how difficult it can be to accomplish that. I love hiking, too, and I wish I knew anything about cars. I'm so jealous of people who have learned how to work on them. Also, your dogs are so cute! I can see their personalities just from those pictures. Huskies are truly something else. Hope the rest of your semester goes well!
ReplyDeleteHey Reid! Your dogs are so freaking cute! Good thing you have a grown up job line up (congrats by the way!) to spoil those two! You'll probably need the money for car parts too! It's so cool that you know how to work on cars. Unfortunately, my dad has chronic back pain, so he was never able to show me how to do more than basic maintenance (oil, headlights, brake pads, etc) on my truck. Good luck with being a real adult after graduation! You're so close!
ReplyDeleteHi Reid!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you. I really liked hearing about all your E-sports adventures, since I like playing video games myself and actually loosely based one of my stories off of a champion from League of Legends. I think it's really cool that you've played in semi professional leagues for different video games. Also, your dogs are so cute!
Hi Reid!!
ReplyDeleteYou're almost to the end! Just a little bit more. FIrst of all, the picture of you and your girlfriend is adorable! Also, like every else said, your dogs are beyond cute. I hope one day they can calm down as they get old. Enjoy all their energy while you can! Also, my friend named Keegan was on Esports. He plays like WOW and LOL though, so I don't know if you know him haha. Hope everything works out and you're gonna be great in your adult life.
Hi Reid!
ReplyDeleteI love the amount of picture you have included in your post. It makes the post seem so alive. I also have two doggies named Gunner and Cooper! Gunner is a german Shepard and Cooper is Siberian Husky! Having a husky I know the amount of energy you are talking about lol He definitely keeps me on my toes 24/7. Good luck finishing out your semester!
Hey Reid
ReplyDeleteTo start off this post I wanted to say I loved the pictures of your dogs! My favorite breed of dogs are huskies and I would honestly have one by now but I live in Texas and it gets a little to hot for the guys to live comfortably. That's super cool that you are into e-sports and I had no idea OU had their own team. What video games are you most into and do yal compete other schools? Well good luck with the rest of your semester!
Hi Reid!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, congratulations on graduating! I am sorry you had to end it this way with the pandemic. I hope you celebrated with your family and girlfriend! I really had no idea that professional gaming even existed, so it was really interesting reading about your passion for it. What types of games do you compete with? Also you have the sweetest looking dogs. Good luck with finals and everything else in your future!
Reid!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that I didn't find your blog until now but I am so glad that I did! You have so many interesting hobbies! Most of all, you have SUCH cute dogs!! My only girl dog's name is Remi, too!! She's part Australian Shepard, part border collie. If your Remi is ANYTHING like mine, she is an absolute handful- incredibly smart, yet tries to act like she doesn't know what you're saying when you get on to her!
Hi Reid, nice to meet you!! I am also a graduating senior! I'm sorry graduation got canceled but we still deserved to celebrate!! Personally, I don't even know how to fix a tire so I think it is so cool that you are fixing up the Porche! I think I've seen models from that age and they are so cool! Your dogs are so pretty!! Congratulations once again!!
ReplyDeleteHello Reid,
ReplyDeleteYour Porsche is going to be sick once you've completed that project. Good luck with that man. It's cool that you do competitive gaming too. I suck at Rocket League and always refer to it as "soccer with cars" around my gamer friends to annoy them. You and your girlfriend are cute, and so are y'all's dogs!
Hi Reid,
ReplyDeleteThat is crazy cool with all the things you have done with esports! I wish I was good enough to go pro playing my favorite games. I have been playing rocket league since season two. That is super dope that you were able to play on stage, I hope you balled out! I am big into watching the counter strike competitive scene.
Hey Reid,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, you're right. I did really want to see your dogs. Obviously, I had no idea you had dogs when I opened your blog, but, now that I've seen pictures, I am so happy you included them. (Like literally everyone) I love any Husky mix, because they are always so cute! And the fluffiness from the Pomeranians must make them even better! Anyway, congrats on making it through OU, although I'm sorry that your final semester kind of went off the rails. I hope you made the most of your college years, and see you out in the real world!
Hey Reid,
ReplyDeleteSmall world man! This is Mason, you may remember me from the OU Esports team, I went down there with the Rocket League squad. That trip to Dreamhack was one of the funnest times I've had in college so far. Getting to meet all the pros and play on the big-stage on stream was sick! That was my last time I participated with the team since I knew my last year I would want to focus on other things, so it was a great conclusion to my esports journey. What are you playing these days? The new Riot FPS maybe?
