Week 5 Reading Notes: Ramayana Part D (Catching Up)
Rama and the others can't jump like Hanuman. Rama uses his celestial weapons to threaten the god of the sea. Nala, a divine artisan is called to make a bridge.
Ravana fakes Rama's death to Sita, but she learns it was fake.
Rama's army is heavily injured, but healed by Garuda. Ravana's brother did not see this coming!
Now we meet Kubhakarna, one of my favorite characters. He must be awoken, but for that he needs food. LOTS of food. Rama still killed him.
Ravana's son Indrajit is still causing problems with his special weaponry. Hanuman takes LITERALLY THE TOP OF A MOUNTAIN back to the army and is able to heal them with the herbs that grow on it.
Now Ravana tries to fool Rama into thinking Sita is dead, but he is told of the rakshasa tricks. He is then informed where Lakshmana will go to battle Indrajit.
Lakshmana kills him, but that just makes Ravana angrier.
Ravana ALMOST kills Lakshmana, but Hanuman again goes to the mountain and is able to heal Lakshmana.
Rama, along with all of his godly weapons is now granted a godly chariot.
The big fight is coming, and Rama is told how he must defeat Ravana now that he has shown himself. Rama must beckon the god of the sun to win.
Rama, using another special weapon defeats Ravana and the mission of the gods is complete, but there is still lots more to unravel after this victory.
Ravana had many wives, but his main wife lament's his death, but is able to give him a proper burial.
Rama is, for some absurd reason, upset with Sita that she spent all this time with another man. He then RENOUNCES HER AS HIS WIFE! He thought she had slept with Ravana.
Sita goes straight to trial-by-fire. Quite literally. She calls upon agni the god of fire as her witness. She succeeds and is Rama's wife once more.
Rama catches Sita up on all they went through to find her all the while on Ravana's chariot.
Rama's sandals are still there! This momentous reunion calls for a big celebration when they return.
After all these years, Rama is crowned King as was originally the plan.
Even after her trial-by-fire, Sita is sent into exile by none other than Rama. All because of gossip and Rama wanting to keep a positive image.
Sita leaves and Rama is struck with sadness, but he is reminded that as she is an avatar, her virtue knows no bounds. He celebrates her even when she is not there, and rules very well for a thousand years.
After a successful life and Lakshmana being taken into heaven, it is also Rama's time to go. The once avatar of Vishnu is now back to being Vishnu.
